MARCY WU

"My name is Marcy Leviathan! I'm the head ranger of the Newtopia Knight Guard! And King Andrias' most trusted advisor. And his daughter too."

-Marcy talking about themself in Chapter 1

Marcy Wu, also known as Marcy Leviathan, is a supporting character in Amphibia and the main character of the fan-comic Froggy Marcy. They are a 14 year old human-amphibian hybrid and the current heiress to the throne of Amphibia.

Prior to having their memories wiped, Marcy was entirely human and best friends with fellow humans Anne Boonchuy and Sasha Waybright. The three became stranded in Amphibia, seperated from each other for several months. Marcy was killed by King Andrias, whose scientists worked to ressurect them using Amphibian tissue samples and DNA.

Marcy represents the green gem of mind on the Calamity Box.

APPEARANCE

Marcy is a scrawny teenager, tall compared to most Amphibians at 5'3", but short compared to most humans. They have short, shaggy dark hair and tan skin. After their resurrection, Marcy's skin has patches of green on their extremeties and abdomen, and they have large, webbed hands and feet with retractable green claws. They have large green frog eyes, and a green tongue. There are several scars on their body, the most notable of which runs the entire length of their chest and torso, from their death and vivisection.

Marcy usually wears a dingy white t-shirt with denim blue overalls. The overalls have a striped patch on one leg. Underneath their clothes they usually wear a dark navy short-sleeved bodysuit that covers their neck. On occasion, they will wear a tiara and frilly princess dress at the request of their father, but they frequently express distaste for this outfit.

PERSONALITY

Marcy is known to those around them by their ceaseless, restless energy. They are frequently upbeat, outgoing, and very, very talkative.

Marcy is a relentlessly hard worker, however the subject to which they'll dedicate themself can be fickle and unpredictable. More often than not, their choice of subject matter will seem unimportant, boring, or strange to others. They have little self-control when it comes to their work, often forsaking common sense and self care to achieve a goal. They are extremely methodical and detail-oriented; if they enjoy something, they will know everything about it.

Despite Marcy's welcoming exterior, they internalize and hide much of their feelings. They don't enjoy being open with others, often trying to deflect or change the subject. Their demanor underwent changes following their ressurrection; as the Princess of Amphibia they are prone to bouts of depression and self-isolation.

Though Marcy is eager to befriend new people, they also tire from social interaction quickly, and lack the empathy to intuitively understand how others think. They often assume their worldview or their method of doing something is the only possible option, not stopping to consider that somebody else could feel differently. This can cause them to come off as selfish, naive, or oblivious.

HISTORY

Pre-Amphibia

Marcy was born on January 6th, 2000 to second-generation Taiwanese-American immigrant parents in Los Angeles, California. They met Anne Boonchuy at a very young age, and the two were inseperable almost immediately. Later, Marcy and Anne met Sasha Waybright when he defended them from bullies at a park. The three attended Saint James Middle School together, with Marcy's parents eventually deciding to move away. Terrified of losing their friends, Marcy discovered the Calamity Box, leading to Anne, Sasha, and Marcy being stranded in Amphibia.

Amphibia

In Amphibia, Marcy lived at Newtopia Castle with King Andrias, Lady Olivia, and General Yunan Longclaw. They were particularly close with Andrias, who considered them like a child of his. Marcy began taking classes and rising through the royal ranks. eventually becoming captain of the Knight Guard after successfully thwarting a cult with their teammates Javi, Kettle, and Femur on Dawnblood Island. On Dawnblood Island, Marcy met Joe Sparrow. Marcy performed many services for the city of Newtopia, eventually reuniting with Anne during a battle against a colony of barbari-ants.

Marcy and Anne travelled around Amphibia to recharge the stones, eventually reuniting with Sasha as well. After the box was fully charged and returned to Andrias, the king revealed Marcy's treachery; they hoped the three would be stuck in Amphibia forever, so the friends would never have to grow apart. Sasha and Anne reject Marcy, but still fight alongside them in an attempt to defeat Andrias. In the battle, Marcy is impaled through the chest by King Andrias, and dies.

Resurrection

Lady Olivia brings Marcy's body to a pair of necromancers. The two make multiple attempts to revive Marcy from the dead using magic. However, they fail several times, with Marcy asphyxiating and dying again each time. They speculate that the damage done to Marcy's body may be too great, and they should perhaps be laid to rest. Lady Olivia is distraught at the idea of losing Marcy, and begs the necromancers for another option. They admit reluctantly that, yes, there is another way, referring Oliva to Dr. S.

Dr S. is able to use questionably sound and even more questionably ethical medical science to revive Marcy. They replace many of Marcy's body parts and organs with Amphibian samples, and part of their brain with a piece of The Night, turning them into an Amphibian-Human hybrid. They are assisted in the operating room by General Yunan, who is unperturbed by gore, but is slightly unsettled by the fact that it's Marcy on the table.

Marcy wakes up once with their memories fully intact. Marcy panicks, asking if King Andrias is going to find them and kill them again. Yunan and Olivia are present, along with Dr. S. Olivia is unable to say goodbye, and runs away crying, followed by Yunan. Dr. S then attempts to reassure Marcy, saying that Marcy is "The Personification of Metamorphosis", and soon enough they won't be in any pain at all.

Life As Froggy Marcy

As Froggy Marcy, Marcy fully believes they are the biological daughter of King Andrias, and heiress to the throne of Amphibia. They still perform many of their services to the city, however, they have trouble with it due to chronic pain. Andrias cites an "accident" that caused their condition, but Marcy can't remember it. They have many "blackout" periods - times when they can't remember where they were or what they were doing. During these periods, the Night Piece controls their brain. Andrias would send Night Marcy to spy on Sasha, who was hiding out in the marshes surrounding Newtopia, occasionally sneaking in to see Marcy's body in the rejuvenation tank. Sasha, having caught glimpses of Night Marcy in the woods, believed he was either being haunted by the ghost of his friend, or was being stalked by a monster.

One night while tracking Sasha, he enters his Calamity form and gives chase to Night Marcy. The Night Piece, frightened, relinquishes control back to Marcy, who panicks and claws Sasha's face in self-defense. Sasha's Calamity power wears off, and he realizes that Marcy is still alive, albeit... changed. Marcy does not remember Sasha, and considers him a strange, new kind of creature. When Sasha passes out, Marcy brings him back to the castle, where his injuries are treated and he is kept as a prisoner.

Marcy frequently experiences blackouts where they are controlled by the Night Piece, in order for Dr S. to perform checkups on them. Dr S. notes that no matter how many changes they make to Marcy's memories, they cannot override Marcy's free will.

Marcy brings Sasha to the mall, where Sasha finds out that Marcy has been mistaking him for a boy. He runs away, leaving them alone, and he eventually returns and tells Marcy about his gender identity. The two then go to Hop Topic together, to buy new clothes for Sasha. On the way back to the castle, Marcy and Sasha encounter a large domestic killapillar that immediately takes a liking to Marcy. The two decide to bring it home, to see if they can find its owner.

When Marcy attempts to show the killapillar to their father, King Andrias demands that Marcy go and change into their princess dress before speaking to him. They agree, though, are unable to bring themself to wear the dress. Lady Olivia comes to check on them, being followed by the killapillar. Olivia attempts to talk to Marcy, but they remain closed off from her. However, they do admit that they are afraid of King Andrias, and don't know why. Lady Olivia reassures them and the two share a hug. However, Marcy's extreme emotions bring out the Night Piece, which clings to Olivia with Marcy's claws. Olivia's screams alert General Yunan, who manages to separate Marcy and Olivia. The two witness the killapillar performing pressure therapy on Marcy, realizing its purpose.

The Gala

After Olivia is taken to the infirmary, Marcy avoids her. This aversion continues until a royal meeting about the Summer Solstice Seaside Soiree. During the meeting, Marcy names the killapillar Sir Loggimus Roderick June Karkat Justin Bieber Skrinkgley 18 Million The Thirdth, or Sir Skrinkgley for short. Afterwards, Marcy attempts to ask Andrias if they can take Sasha as their plus-one to the gala. Andrias becomes furious, ordering Marcy to return to their tower. Marcy, not understanding what they did wrong, overhears Andrias speak ill of them, and collapses to the floor in the hall, crying quietly.
