THE EXILE OF OAKSTAR

Note: This section is heavily intertwined with the events of Petalkit's Shadow, my AU fanfic and the biggest point of canon divergence in my Warrior Cats headcanons.

After the events of Mapleshade's Vengeance/Petalkit's Shadow, Petalshade and Perchshine petition Darkstar and the other leaders to exile Oakstar, to have him live out his remaining lives as a rogue or loner. They argue that his decision to exile the kits along with Mapleshade was unnecesarily cruel and a violation of the Warrior Code, and was a direct cause of Maplshade's rampage which led to all the deaths that occurred afterwards, three of which were Oakstar's.

This suggestion is initially considered outrageous and unfounded, however, Darkstar and Doefeather lead a patrol made up of both RiverClan and ThunderClan cats to drive Oakstar out. This is a controversial decision that lead to tensions between RiverClan and ThunderClan being high for seasons afterwards. Beetail, Oakstar's deputy, is promoted to leader, however he does not recieve nine lives since the exile of Oakstar was against StarClan's will. Nonetheless, he takes the name Beestar and keeps up the ruse, eventually winning his clan's trust and respect, leading them as best he could. Overall, Beestar was a meek, nervous leader, often needing to be backed up by his stern, hard-headed deputy Doefeather.

Oakstar's mate Sweetbriar saw him in secret after his exile, eventually becoming pregnant with Pinekit. Pinekit was told his father died bravely in battle before his birth, a story Pinestar believed for much of his life. Pinestar never knew his father in life and, after learning of Oakstar's life from other StarClan cats, is not a fan of him, seeing Oakstar's actions as another example of the pointless cruelty of Clan life.

Oakstar went to StarClan after his death, but is shunned by many cats for his disregard for the safety of kits. His more aggressive style of leading, such as sending raids to twolegplace, fell out of favor in the post-Firestar era, and many modern ThunderClan cats consider him a poor leader.

Beetail does not go by his leader name in StarClan, no longer needing to keep up the illusion of nine lives. In ThunderClan history, he is often brushed over due to the briefness of his leadership, many cats skipping straight from Oakstar to Doestar. Beetail, nervous and reserved, is happy to be out of the spotlight, and had always considered Doestar to be the true successor to Oakstar.
